Campgrounds

The Smoky Mountain area has many campgrounds to choose from to suit those looking for something primitive or those looking for a few more amenities. There are campgrounds available with RV hookups in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Townsend, and Cherokee. Many of these campgrounds come equipped with showers, electrical and water hookups, grills and swimming pools. Most campgrounds are closed in the winter so be sure to call ahead for information.

For those looking for something a little more adventurous, the Smokies offer front country and back country camping. Front country camping offers developed campsites that can be reached by car. These campsites do offer restrooms and running water, but there are no showers or electrical hookups. A small fee typically applies to front country camping. Back country camping will require hiking to your campsite. Back country camping is free, but is only permitted in designated campsites and requires a permit that can be obtained from most ranger stations or visitor centers.
